Question by ktcougarus: Anyone have good information about depression?

I feel like I might be depressed, but I don’t know how to be sure. I’m usually happy and smiling when I’m with my friends, but whenever I’m alone, I start feeling really sad and lonely and bored. My grades are suffering in school, because I don’t pay attention and I don’t feel motivated. I’m tired a lot (but that’s mostly because I hang out with friends until late) but when I finally do have time for a rest, I never sleep well. I know that a good diet and a sleep routine and all that stuff would help, but I am just not motivated enough to do it. Does anyone have any advise or sugestions? Or any information on depression and how to treat it? Thanks.
I should also add that me and my boyfriend just had a really slow and painful break up (I still have feelings for him, but he does not return them). But my grades were suffering before this, and I’ve had these feelings for a long time.

Best answer:

Answer by Mememom
Your sad from the breakup but remember your young and there are many fish in the sea. Try speaking with your parents about depression and ask them if they could get you into going to see a counselor to help you deal with this. Hopefully your parents will want to get you the help you need. You can go to the nearest mental health clinic or see your own doctor to recommend one.

What is the exact offical definition of Mild Depression? Also who can and has to diagnosis a person with Mild Depression for it to be an exact offical diagnoisis? Thanks
I ask because I’m trying to fight a military discharge
Well because the military has no idea what they are talking about because I don’t have a problem with adjustment, low self esteem, and mild depression!

Best answer:

Answer by thebigz
i think you need to see a doctor – no one online can diagnose you or tell you what kind of medicine to take without talking with you about whats going on with you . There are so many meds out there you can get hurt if you do not get checked out properly.

So I know I am depressed.
But I just keep drinking, and drinking.
I really would like to find some method to stop my crazy drinking habits. I’ve tried the classes but to me its just a buncha drunkies who stay with it for a month then go back to their problems and it makes me even worse.
Is there some kind of pill that will help prevent my alcohol obsession?
PLEASE I NEED HELP Because my wife is about to throw me out and I have my daughter in tears.

Best answer:

Answer by Norma G
Dude that IS rough. My experiences was God and AA. I have been clean and sober 9 yrs. Not always easy. But in answer to your question about a pill…there is antibuse. They say it makes you deathly ill if you drink on top of it. My prayers are with you and your family.

Question by Taylor G.: Adult patching for those from 20yrs-30yrs of age.?

I know some benefit can be had on more ‘minimal’ cases of exotropia (and the eso alike) variations of eye movement.. of the intermittent variety (as there is documented success with ambylopic eyes that are in a static/constant state of exotropic deviation .. coming back to ‘life’ so to speak after patching and therapy in people).

At any rate:

For someone in the age range of 20yrs-30yrs that has an intermittent exotropic eye and as such convergence insufficiency that is made worse with fatigue (tiredness) —

A) Patching is beneficial (patching of the ‘good, non deviating eye) —

Not really asking this part, because it is known… (But I guess I could ask how much difference would patching be as opposed to using atropine to dilate the good eye?) Better? Worse?

B) How many hours a day, how many days a week, and how many months total.. should one with this minor intermittent deviation patch the ‘good’ eye?

C) Given the subject is older than a typical ‘child’.. but still not even close to middle aged, .. the plasticity is likely to be more prevalent.. thus results should come faster than if done 20 years later. Given that, at what type of typical intervals do noticable results present themselves?

I know the brain has to develop neural pathways and solidify these new connections while it is being forced to use the ‘non dominant’ eye.. as well as the exotropic eye being strengthened by being forced to perform 100% of all visual duties. This takes time,.. but just curious what kind of time frame is typical?

I read a general X months.. but alot of that is with a few hours a day of patching, and even some days being taken off. I feel the person should patch as many hours possible during each day, and not take days off if possible. *IE: The longer more intense the therapy.. the quicker the result*

Thanks,

Best answer:

Answer by David E
Patching is a bad idea. The idea is to get your eyes to work better together. How is that possible if one of them is covered? If you want to pursue vision therapy on your own, I would suggest pencil push ups.

Question by dn.dan_6575: How do you deal with a panic attack and is there anything you can do beside taking medication?

I don’t know exactly what it is, but from reading and researching, I think it is what you all called panic attack and it happened to me quite often lately. I sometimes just sat and thought of something and that all it took, I started to panic and my body started to get hot and sweaty. So weird and very scary. It’s like whatever I thought of, trying to take control of my body and my mind. Like the other day, I was in the dentist office, after getting the shot, my body started to shake and I panic. I felt like I was going to die. I had to go to the bathroom and calmed myself down. Or sometimes even a simple thing like thinking about my breaking up and not being able to see my girlfriend anymore… But what would happen if I couldn’t calm myself down ? Is this condition related to not being fit (lack of endorphine)? Is this normal, I mean, does it happen to everyone? What is the best way to deal with it, because I don’t like to depend on medication if I can help it. Please help !

Best answer:

Answer by Emmy
It doesn’t happen to *everyone* but panic attacks aren’t uncommon. You can try deep breathing, meditation, and positive visualization.

But, it would be best to get a checkup with a doctor anyway, just to rule out any physiological causes. Good luck.

I’m not medicated but my mother is going to take me to see a doctor about it soon. So please help me find out how to get rid of anxiety attacks while Im having one.

Best answer:

Answer by Gabby
The only thing you can do is wait until your mom takes you to see a doctor and get medication for them. The medication helps you during an attack and reduces them as well. There is nothing you can do until you get that medication.
Best of luck-

Answer by Emmy
It doesn’t happen to *everyone* but panic attacks aren’t uncommon. You can try deep breathing, meditation, and positive visualization.

But, it would be best to get a checkup with a doctor anyway, just to rule out any physiological causes. Good luck.
